THE STATE WON’T FORGET THE LAVLIN “SHOCK TREATMENT”
Comptroller and Auditor General Reports enlightened the nation about the corruption and it revealed key facts on the biggest and the most disgraceful corruption in the political history of Kerala- The SNC Lavlin Deal. Masterminds behind the scene were the then electricity minister Mr.Pinarayi Vijayan with loyal back up from his “Team LDF”. Through this inglorious corruption they back-stabbed the state & fed into their bank accounts, the hard earned money of the tax payers.
LDF could never give an adequate reply to the findings of the C.A.G report and they still fend the questions with baseless allegations against UDF.
According to the report of the C.A.G
* There were no steps made to check if the products are being purchased at a reasonable rate.
* The 374.5 crores invested was not utilised properly and did not bring in the expected results either.
* Inefficient administration and monitoring led to an extra expenditure of 33.2 crores.
* The idea of manufacturing the machine parts was never considered.
* Electricity board’s appeal to retain the generators was discarded.
* SNC did not give training to the engineers of the electricity board.
* Low quality equipments were supplied by the company.
* Electricity production reduced after the renovation of the projects.
* Global tenders were not called for.
Balanandan report reinforces the allegations of corruption
CPM’s very own politburo member Balanandan along with 28 other experts formed a panel which suggested the LDF government to entrust the duty of the renewal process of the power plants upon the public sector undertaking B.H.E.L. However the suggestions of the report vanished in thin air and the reason why SNC Lavlin was given the contract still remains a shrouded in mystery.
Pinarayi and Nayanar dodged the questions of the media then by saying that the promise by Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) of a 100 crore donation to the Malabar Cancer Centre boosted their profile and that became the decisive factor. This claim was openly condemned by Mr.Varadachari, Principal Secretary (Finance) of that time. He called it a preposterous and idiotic decision.
And did the 100 crores ever come to the state?
The promise by SNC was assured by a contract and legal bindings that they would have no choice but to obey the agreement. Out of the 100 crores promised, around 9 crores were given to company who was in charge of the construction and establishment of the cancer centre.
Where did the remaining money go?
LDF cannot answer this as they are busy framing answers to questions that reveal their corrupt past. Pinarayi and his counterparts are more than obliged to the people of Kerala to give answers to these pestering yet relevant questions.
